Penbury Grove is a stately new country house in Buckinghamshire, designed by Prof. Architect Robert Adam in a traditional classical style.
The imposing exterior combines two contrasting masonry materials: elegant Portland stone detailing and hand-made Michelmersh brick.
Key features:
- Architectural Style: The design is a contemporary take on a traditional English country house, with a classical influence that includes features like a grand, raised balustrade, classical urns, and decorative stone garlands.
- Materials: We combined a mix of Portland stone and warm-toned Michelmersh brick for the primary facade to enhance the architectural depth and refinement of Prof. Robert Adam’s vision.
- Landscaping: The extensive 25-acre grounds feature a restored Victorian alpine garden, which was created using over 300 massive stone boulders transported by train from Derbyshire.
- Interior Features: The interior spans approximately 14,000 square feet and features high-quality finishes throughout, including bespoke joinery, large formal reception rooms ideal for entertaining, and a grand entrance hall designed to impress.
The construction of Penbury Grove has a historical link to the Roman era. Archaeological work near the site has uncovered evidence of a Roman-era industrial site used specifically for digging and processing flint pebbles that were subsequently used for local road construction.
This history ties the modern construction to centuries of building and material extraction in the immediate area.
